On my last full day in England, Bill and Anthea decided we should go to one of their favorite beaches, so we went to Bournemouth. It was about an hour and a half drive. It wasn’t a hot day, and it was a bit windy, but we had a nice set up and it was very relaxing.
Here are some photos! First, some of the drive on the way there …

Then, here we are!

I had to look up what “GROYNE” was: a low wall or sturdy barrier built out into the sea from a beach to check erosion and drifting. I didn’t take a photo of the entire thing, but I don’t think I’ve seen a structure like this in the US.

Hard to tell but some military helicopters flew by

Then, we heard some loud noise behind us, and lo and behold this big piece of machinery drove down onto the beach. It kept going, about a quarter mile away, to do some digging. Maybe making a new groyne!

There is a very long walkway – we decided to walk down to get a snack

And a funicular! It leads up to the parking lot. We saw a mom and her kid, and many beach toys, get on the funicular. 1.50 BP for a one-way ride. Much shorter than walking the ramps down from the parking lot!

These little beach bungalows are all owned by people. Some are set up pretty nicely, but they are very small. Still pretty cool though!

Then a few parting shots – I took Alfie and Dylan out for a walk one day and we walked through a few wheat fields:

And, that my friends, finally (!), is the end of my four-week trip to Spain, England, and Wales. I went on a two-week trip recently so I’ll have to tackle that next. Until then!
