The day for scaling Sleeping Bear Dunes arrived! And they weren’t very far away – just past Glen Arbor.

I thought it was going to be a fairly short walk to get to the water – just steep dunes – but, I was mistaken. Steep dunes AND it was about 1 & 3/4 miles each way! And it was hot!
Anyway, here is the first dune. To give you a sense of perspective, those little “ants” are people! I never would have imagined dunes like this in Michigan!
So, the first dune was a doozy! Here’s the view on the way up:

We stopped to rest in some shade and saw this piece of wood that looked like a snake!
Finally! Lake Michigan!!
Kenn was very happy to have made it the whole way!
It looked so ocean-like that I wanted to taste it to see if it was salty. Nope! It tasted clean and fresh!
We hung out for a half hour or so, and then it was time to head back.
I had fun making Adam look like he was little and standing on this downed tree!
I took this one right before I ran down. You can see River and Adam in the top right of the photo – they ran down ahead of me.
On our way back, we stopped for dinner at a little taco stand right in Cedar. Sadly this was my last full day in Cedar. Stayed tuned for my next post – The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!
