What Have I Been Up To? (there will be more of these coming …)

Ever since I got to Carmel, my body has just felt “old.”  I think I mentioned I did get a massage, and I did a sound bath meditation, but I still just felt old.

I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not, but I’m in a Zoom book club.  Our first book was The Four Agreements.  I knew the person organizing it – River – but hadn’t met any of the other people before.   Over the course of reading The Four Agreements we all opened up with each other – sharing vulnerabilities, emotions, feelings, thoughts.  It amazes me how close we all got even though many of us hadn’t met in person.

Anyway, we’re now reading The Big Leap.  Our ‘assignment’ for the week was to read Chapter 4.  It was interesting because at the start of this chapter, the author, Gay Hendricks, was talking about returning home from a trip and being tired, and then picking up the mail and finding an AARP invitation, and just feeling exhausted.  That’s kind of how I was feeling.

On top of that, Chapter 4 talks asks some questions, and one of them was “What work do I do that doesn’t seem like work.”  My very literal mind kind of scoffed at that since I’m retired, and I was having trouble relating to the question and how to answer it.

I mentioned both of these things to my wonderful book club compatriots – about how I was feeling ‘old and tired’ and how I had trouble relating to “work” in this context and they were so compassionate and caring, saying that I’m not ‘old’ and a different word to use instead of ‘work’ could be ‘effort’ and we talked about how I was feeling for a short while.  I swear I had a spiritual breakthrough right then and there!

Next day I had a session with River to celebrate the solstice.  Pretty sure I had another breakthrough then too.  I felt an energy shift and also felt like I cleared some not-so-good energy that my body was holding.

Next morning I went out for a walk and I had the spring back in my step and felt sooo much better!  Yay!

I found a Pilates studio a block from the AirBnB and walked over to meet the owner and check the place out.  We got along well so I booked 5 weeks of sessions (there’s a discount for buying 10 sessions at a time).  Had my first session yesterday and it was great!  I think she had me do a bunch of different things just to see what I was capable of.  And I’m excited to have another one tomorrow!

Then, in the evening, I attended a Psychic Circle at a local book shop.  There were about 6 people there besides the bookshop proprietor and the psychic.  We all had the chance to ask a question or two.  I asked about my journey so far – driving out to CA etc and she gave me a lot of validation about what I’m doing so that was great.

Afterwards I walked around a little bit and then came back to the house.  I was having a cocktail out on the deck when I heard “Hello!” Turns out the people staying at the guesthouse associated with this house are related to the owners –  husband, wife and two adorable twin girls almost 3 years old.  They saw me outside and decided to reach out.  That was nice.

Mom and the two girls went with me to the Farmer’s Market today where I got some more really sweet strawberries, cherry tomatoes, some fresh fish, some shrimp ceviche, some salsa and tortilla chips plus a bunch of veggies.  Yum!

So, that’s what I’ve been up to!  In a few days I’m doing a workshop called “Unlock the mystery and magic of your soul’s mission.” I’m excited about it – it’s 2.5 hours long and should be very interesting.  I’ll tell you about it in the next installment.

Talk soon!
