A friend of mine took this photo and I thought it would make a great painting:

As it turned out I was about to start a 5-week Impressionistic painting class, so I thought that it would be a great one to learn with.
Here’s the painting after week 2. Week 1 the teacher had us do an exercise about warm and cool colors, and color mixing. Week 2 she said we should pick a color and paint sections with that color, ensuring we matched the VALUE. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color or hue. I chose blue. I kinda liked it just like this, but, as you’ll see, I kept going.

Week 3, I worked a lot on the sky and added purple texturing to the darker blue area.

Week 4 I worked more on the sky, started adding more color to the darker area, and layered in some more color on the trail

For Week 5 I started another painting, which I will include in a separate post when I’m finished with it. The rest of the photos were done on my own at home. Started working on the background here.

OK, I think I’m done! I ordered some frames online – the teacher wants us to have an art show at the end of August.
