Well, it’s been a few days since my last post – I think in the last one I wrote, I had just checked into my first AirBnB, a home in San Mateo hosted by Daniela and David.
So, the next day was Wednesday. I headed over to my dad’s house to help with cleanup stuff. I won’t go into great detail, partially cuz I can’t remember everything that happened, but suffice it to say that over the past few days I moved 3 TV stands, a valet chair, 2 boxes of cords, a box with VHS tapes and CDs, a big bag of towels, and 5 bags of clothing. Felt good to get that done. Also emptied and recycled about 40 jars/bottles of food. And replaced a porch light bulb and trimmed the hedges. I don’t want to make it sound like doing all this was not an emotional thing, because it was, for a number of reasons. But, in this venue, some things are better left unsaid. So, I will leave them that way.
Had lunch with my friend Jack yesterday. We tried out a place called La Viga in Redwood City. It was pretty good. Jack thought it was expensive (which, as I think about it more, I agree with) but we had ceviche, guacamole, a glass of wine (me), a cerveza (him), 2 tacos each so I guess it added up. Afterwards we thought we’d walk around downtown Redwood City and came across a Salsa Festival! Too bad we didn’t know about it before we ate!

Now I’m at a hotel for one night – heading to Truckee, CA tomorrow for a couple days with some high school friends. I’ve stayed at this hotel before, and the last time I was here I had a room with a big tree outside the window. At some Hilton chain hotels, you can select the room you want. Somehow I remembered the room number and got the ‘tree room’ again! Stoked!

Later today I’m heading to my cousin’s place for a potluck with all of the cousins. That should be fun (and you’ll hear/see about it later)
So, back to my AirBnB experience. I have to say, it was really great. Daniela and David were great hosts, and they had a two-dog welcoming committee – Zannah and Kikki. That was part of the draw for me. My room was cozy, right next to my own bathroom, the house was comfortable and clean, and the three of us seemed to have some chemistry and got along well. Plus, the location was very convenient for where I wanted to be, and go. My last night there, we watched ‘Wonder Woman.’ I think I mentioned in a previous blog entry that I watched it at Jay and Carolyn’s house when I was in Idaho. It’s amazing how much different stuff you pick up when you watch a movie a second time. Or maybe I wasn’t paying strict enough attention at Jay and Carolyn’s ;-). Funnily enough, both places had phenomenal sound systems – I felt like I was in a movie theatre the sound was so good.
And David is into DC and Marvel stuff and had an impressive collection of Star Wars figurines – including characters that were in the book(s) but not in the movies. Here’s a little sample – thanks to David for letting me take some pics!
But, all good things must come to an end. So, I bid farewell to my new friends, both human and canine 🙂
