Another Day in Jolly Old England

After staying up a couple nights in a row, I think I am somewhat on England time now, 5 hours ahead of EST.

Yesterday we did a little sightseeing, going to Lacock (pronounced Lay’-cock).  It was raining, but not hard, so we walked around a bit and had lunch at a pub called The George Inn.  I had halloumi cheese (delish) and a Wadsworth IPA.  I will just say that I liked it, but it is nothing like IPAs that I am used to (such as Victory Headwaters IPA or Sierra Nevada IPA.  And it was cask-conditioned too!)  Lacock is a very old picturesque, very-English-looking town, so several movies were shot there over the years (sorry – don’t have any names)

Welcome to Lacock!

The George Inn.

For this trip I have been taking pictures both with my phone and with my camera.  I realize now that I have not uploaded the pictures from my camera, but only have ones from my phone.  And I am typing this in bed.  So, sorry people – more photos next time!  I may edit this and add some more photos in later!

After Lacock we came back to the house for some snacks and drinks, and at 7:00pm we headed over to the Lamb Inn, about a mile from the house, for the Burns dinner.

Cool pitchfork name! Don’t hit your head!

At the appointed hour of 8pm, the bagpiper began, and the haggis made its grand entrance.

The haggis was ‘addressed,’ duly dispatched, and then dinner was served.  Here is my plate – veggie haggis with mashed potatoes and turnip:

Very yummy!

After dinner and more wine, back to the house we went.  We stayed up chatting past 1am, and I actually slept in a bit today.

Although the weather app on my phone said it would be sunny today, we had yet another day of rain.  The weather here was actually pretty much exactly what the weather was at home – at least from looking at the weather app.  Nonetheless, I put shorts on this morning (I brought them so I had to wear them at least once!)

This morning we watched Bill exercise Jack.  Jack is just getting reacquainted with jumping:

And Tibble the cat was presiding over the activities:

We came back in the house and learned that horses have passports too!

After a wonderful meal of all kinds of stuff (meat eaters had roast pork), it was time to take Louise to the train station to catch the train to LHR to catch her flight back to Geneva.  Here are the 3 of us.  The last time the 3 of us were together in the same place was in 1980!

After that, Bill, Anthea and I watched some telly.  We watched a local show, kind of like CBS Sunday Morning, about different things.  One segment was about 2 brothers who work a family sheep farm and are going to the Olympics for Curling.  Another showed the difficult delivery of a calf.  We also watched The Midwives (really good drama about the history of midwives), a comedy show that I can’t remember the name of (about older people in a village – it was pretty darn funny!), and the Graham Norton show.

And now it’s past 11pm, I’m kind of tired, and am ready to go to sleep.  But I wanted to make sure I made an update today!
