February 10 was a big day, with two excursions on our agenda. The first one wasn’t physically demanding other than having to stay up late. The second one, well, you’ll see …
So, the first excursion was to a midnight concert in the Arctic Cathedral in Tromso. Tromsdalen Church, also known as Ishavskatedralen (The Arctic Cathedral) was dedicated on November 19, 1965. The cathedral is a landmark visible from the Tromsø Sound, the Tromsø Bridge and when landing in Tromsø by aircraft. To get to the cathedral from the boat, we rode over the Tromso Bridge by bus – it was really pretty.

Now here are some that we took. The concert was amazing. Some traditional Norwegian music and some written by the guy in the photo. I think I wrote more about them in a previous post, so I’ll just show these photos here, but note that the singer is the one wearing the grey, the man played the piano, and the blonde woman played different flutes. I have the program somewhere – when I dig it up I’ll add more detail.

The musicians. From left to right – singer, piano player, flute player. I think the singer may have been Sami (The Sami are the northernmost indigenous people of Europe). As I said earlier, she had the most incredible voice. Wow.
Our friends on the boat wanted to make sure we knew how to get back on!
Most of the rest of the day we spent on the boat, and I have a ton of landscape photos so I’ll save that for the next post. Maybe by then I’ll find that program. I know I kept it – just not sure where it is!
