OK, here we go. Didn’t want to overwhelm you with too many photos at once.
So, as I said before, we landed in Kristiansund and then boarded a bus on our way to the marble mine. It was snowing pretty hard which made the trip a bit more, uh, exciting. And windy roads up the mountain to the mine. But anyway, here are some photos:
We went through the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel on our way there. It goes from Averøy to Kristiansund; together they form a second fixed link between Kristiansund and Molde. (we got off the boat in Kristiansund and after our marble mine tour reboarded the boat in Molde)
The Atlantic Ocean Road or the Atlantic Road (Norwegian: Atlanterhavsveien) is an 8.3-kilometer (5.2 mi) long section of County Road 64 that runs through an archipelago in Eide and Averøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. It passes by Hustadvika, an unsheltered part of the Norwegian Sea, connecting the island of Averøy with the mainland and Romsdalshalvøya peninsula. It runs between the villages of Kårvåg on Averøy and Vevang in Eida. It is built on several small islands and skerries, which are connected by several causeways, viaducts and eight bridges—the most prominent being Storseisundet Bridge.
And here we are at a very iconic spot of The Atlantic Road – the Storseisundet Bridge. You can get out and walk a loop, which we did. It was getting dark but still beautiful.
We finished our walk, endured our very snowy ride, entered another tunnel and came out in the mine!
The chandelier is made from marble!
The concert hall – they have concerts there from time to time, and have a full bar there too (which was closed when we were there)
After we finished a nice hearty bowl of homemade soup, it was time to get back on the bus and head to Molde, where we enjoyed a late dinner.
Other towns that we passed through during the night were: Ålesund, Torvik, and Måløy. Early in the morning we stopped at Floro but didn’t get off the boat.
Then, back on the move, onward to Bergen where we debarked from the boat later in the day. Sad!
