2020 – Part 1 of ??

At the beginning of this pandemic, I found it difficult to even mention the name of the virus that caused it.  As I type this, I see that I still have that difficulty.  I wasn’t going to write about what’s been going on because I just didn’t want to think about it that much.  But so much has happened so far this year, and the fact is, when I reread posts that I wrote at a later time, I’m always reminded of something I had forgotten.  So, I’ve decided I’m just going to put down some thoughts about all the things going on in the world.  It will be interesting to read this a few years from now, I think.  I plan to update this when/if something else of note happens (But I’m sure it’ll be a ‘when’ not an ‘if’).

I already can’t remember the exact date that our stay-at-home order was made official, but I know things were starting to change in early to mid March.  I had a refinance in process and settlement was supposed to be March 20 in Delaware.  Luckily, the week or two prior I had the inkling to see if I could move the settlement to my lawyer’s office in PA so I wouldn’t have to drive the 2 hours into DE.  And, luckily both the DE and PA lawyers agreed to make that happen.  I was going to have to wire some money for the settlement and was planning to get it done at the bank the morning of settlement, but luckily my lawyer told me to get it the day before.  As it turns out, the bank was going to be closed for anyone coming into the lobby the next day!  The day of settlement was going to be a nice day so I asked if we could do the settlement outside (thus not enclosed in an office).  My lawyer had a ‘back room’ with a door so we sat there with the door open and got all the paperwork signed.  Done!  So, I guess the official order came for us on March 23.

Luckily I had stocked up on groceries and booze.  But at the time I thought we’d be ‘over’ the stay-at-home order in 2 weeks.  Boy was I wrong.

Right around that time DE ‘closed’ the border to out-of-staters, and even though I live about 8 miles from the DE border, I was not allowed in unless I quarantined for 14 days. (in an ironic twist, as of yesterday, now the tables are turned and people from DE are not supposed to enter PA unless they quarantine 14 days)

After writing this much, I think it would be too much to put into one post, so I am going to write about this in parts.  So, stay tuned for part 2, coming soon!
