What Have I Been Up To? Some Touristy Stuff

As I said in my last post, my friend Karen came to visit me for a week and we did some touristy stuff.

First up, I drove us over to Pacific Grove and we walked from there over to the Monterey Aquarium.  I hadn’t been there probably in decades and they’ve really done a nice job with updates.  Here are some photos:

They had a whole section just for jellyfish!

This guy was really small – maybe an inch across or so

After the aquarium we walked through Cannery Row and over to Sandbar and Grill for a late lunch / early dinner. I had a crab louie – sooooo good!

Some scenes of / from the touristy wharf:

Next day we did the 17 Mile Drive.  Here are some photos – first up, The Lone Cypress – the most photographed tree in the world.  Somebody was illegally flying a drone near it!

There were many beaches to stop at

This fat little squirrel was contemplating the ocean while we were there

This is at Shepherd’s Knoll

We decided to stop at SUR for late lunch / early dinner (recurring theme, eh?)
They had this dessert that was basically a giant bon bon (vanilla ice cream with a thin chocolate coating) that was served with dry ice. It was fun!

The next day we walked over to Carmel River Beach, then on to Monastery Beach, then back and up some stairs to go look at Betty White’s old house.  The first two photos are Carmel Beach

We saw a lot of hummingbirds!

Next day we went to Point Lobos and hiked the perimeter.  I can’t believe it but I didn’t take one photo!  It was really beautiful.  We ended up parking at Monastery Beach and then walking in from there.  We went fairly early so there was lots of parking there when we got there, but, boy, by the time we left it was packed!

Next day we did a little shopping around town and then the day after that Karen left.  So, that was the week that Karen visited!

I’ve had some stuff happen around town but I’ll save that for the next post.  Talk soon!
