Another Painting

I am donating a painting to a local music festival raffle.  All I had to do was be one of the first 70 people to submit an application.

I have to turn the painting in tomorrow, along with an artist’s bio, but both are done now!

First, here is a photo of what I painted:

It took me quite a bit of time to get it done, so get ready for a lot of photos of each step!

Step 1.  Pretty rough.  I drew the outlines with charcoal (wipes off easily)

Starting to take shape …

At this point, I felt kind of stuck with how to proceed.  I didn’t like how it looked but wasn’t sure how to fix it.  So, I decided to reach out to my painting teacher and ask for feedback.  She said that everything seemed like it was in the same plane, and that the two main rocks looked like two fists facing each other.  And the “m” shaped rock wasn’t reading as a rock.  Back to the drawing board!  Lots of changes coming …

Finally, here it is.  I feel like I could keep messing with it for a while but I decided that it was ‘done.’

I was having a hard time writing the Artist’s bio, so I decided to try using ChatGPT.  I’ve kind of been against using it, but I gave it a shot anyway.  It wrote a really nice bio after asking 3 or 4 questions.  One question asked what is my artistic style and I said I didn’t know, but, somehow it captured my style.  Wild!

So, once I turn it in, there will be an Artist’s Reception and then the painting will join several more other paintings for the two-week long raffle.  They will sell tickets and then people put their tickets in little boxes with slots underneath each painting, for the ones they are interested in. Then, after the 2 weeks, they pull one ticket for each painting and that’s the winner!

So exciting!
