To get some R&R after all the hard work of the Scarecrow Festival, we went for a 4 day holiday to Llanmadoc, Wales. It is in the Southwest area of Wales known as the Gower Peninsula. As they say it here, we went to “The Gower.”
Here is the bridge going over the River Severn to Wales – we were driving on the M4.

It was nice to have a walking path pretty much right outside our front door!
We walked down to some open fields where some wild Welsh ponies were grazing.
The big brown guy in the back ran towards us, a little intimidating. He then whinnied and snorted a couple times. Then he went to round up some of the other ponies. I’ve never seen a horse round up other horses – it was pretty amazing to see. My photos aren’t that great because I had to move fast – they were moving faster! But look closely at their faces – they look much different compared to horses us US peeps are used to. You can actually see the whites of their eyes, and they have a ‘forehead.’

The next day was a bit of a washout rain-wise so the walk was a bit shorter. We spent the day relaxing and enjoyed 2 games of Rummikub, of which I won both!

And I discovered a new food sensation – Laverbread! It’s not bread. It’s made of laver seaweed which is local to where we were in Wales. It tastes kind of like seaweedy creamed spinach. Yummy yum yum!
I must admit I was a bit put off when I first opened the tin:
