My usual morning routine includes sometimes watching ‘Kelly and Ryan.’ And sometimes, when it’s over I leave the TV on – it’s followed by The Price is Right. A few months ago I left the TV on and was kind of listening as I did stuff around the house, when I heard “your prize is a 3 night / 4 day trip to Carmel California!!!”
Of course my ears perked up and I paid attention to the trip. It included a stay at the Cypress Inn, a very nice hotel with a restaurant/bar on the corner of Seventh and Lincoln Sts in downtown Carmel.
Fast forward a few months to last Friday when, as part of my Friday routine, I picked up a copy of the Carmel Pinecone, a weekly local paper. The Pinecone has a Police Blotter section which I LOVE to read!

“SATURDAY, MARCH 11
A couple who had been drinking at Lincoln and Seventh were upset that their flight was delayed two hours [presumably their arriving flight]. They also became more upset there was no power when they got here. The male half suggested to the female they get another hotel in a different city The female half did not like that idea because she won this trip on “The Price is Right,” and she wanted to stay in Carmel. Both parties agreed to stop arguing and go to sleep for the night. Call received at 0332 hours.”
That weekend there was a huge rain / wind storm – an atmospheric river – and pretty much the entire town of Carmel was out of power for at least a day and a half. 99% of the businesses / restaurants in town were closed. Probably not the best time to cash in a prize. But hopefully the trip ended up being memorable in a good way for them!
