Spring Trip 2019 – Llanes to Oviedo – REI Day 3

UPDATE:  I have updated this post since I got home, adding info about Oviedo which I had pretty much completely left out earlier.  This post basically covers Day 3 of our trip, which occurred on 4/22/19.

Today we went from Llanes (pronounced “yahness”) to Oviedo.  We drove for about an hour then got out and started to continuing walking on the Camino del Norte.

Here are some photos:

standing on the beach!

Our first stop, about 2 miles in.  After this we rode the bus for about a mile to our next section.

Loading up for the 5 mile ride:

Our next starting place:

I didn’t include it here, but this is at the top of a steep ascent, about 600 ft elevation gain in less than a mile!  This sign is pointed in the opposite direction, for those going the other way: “dangerous descent”

There were some dinosaur footprints in the big rock formations on the beach:

Photos showing the restaurant where we had lunch:

Lunches were pretty much always served ‘family style’ and were ordered for us to enable us to try many local dishes we wouldn’t have known to order!

Sidewalks formed to look wavy.  Kind of a trip to walk on them!

After lunch it was time to ride the bus the rest of the way to Oviedo

We checked into our hotel, and then we had a tour of the San Salvador Cathedral in Oviedo.  This is a UNESCO World Heritage Complex which is home to several revered relics of the Kingdom of Asturias, including the Cloth of Oviedo (also called the Suderium).  This cloth is believed to have been wrapped around Jesus’ head in the tomb.

After the tour we were on our own for dinner.  Cilla and I found a nice wine bar to hang out at for a while, and then we walked around a little.

Yes, this is Woody Allen – commemorated for his movie “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

Okay, I know this isn’t much but I was really trying to fit in what we did today.  This is not complete, but, it’s better than nothing!

Tomorrow we have a big day and will probably not have internet access, so, I’ll write again when I can!

Until then, dear readers!
