I had some time to myself so decided to do a little exploring. After my day with Dawn and realizing that things really weren’t very far from where I was staying, I decided to go to Glen Arbor and check things out. The weather turned hot, and I brought mainly cooler weather clothing for the trip so I was hoping I might find a little sundress or something that would be cooler to wear.
River, Adam and I had been talking about hiking Sleeping Bear dune (which we did end up doing – that will be in a subsequent post). I didn’t realize there was a trail for such a long way – I could’ve done a hike for about 7 miles had I planned a little better. But anyway, I was glad to see this map and see how things fit together.
The trail had some historic buildings along the way.
Everything was so lush and green!
Then, onto the town of Glen Arbor. It was a cute little town, kind of reminded me of the downtown part of Half Moon Bay. Not a ton of shops or restaurants but plenty enough to keep you busy!
I found it ironic that there was a sign saying this was an Authorized Trading Post for genuine indian-made crafts, above a big Beanie Baby display.

Then I saw that I could walk just a block to get to the lake, and passed this little store. Stopped in and spoke with Cookie the owner. And picked up some hydrosols. Here’s a link: https://www.baylavender.com/

Sat in the shade for a little bit before deciding to walk back to my car.
But, as it turns out, the little winery that I had passed on the way to the beach was now open, so I decided to stop in and do a little tasting.
I had just about finished my tasting when two couples walked up. I was sitting at this big table outside by myself so I said, “you guys can sit here, I’m getting ready to leave” and they said, “you don’t have to leave yet, hang out with us!”
Two more glasses of wine (and a bunch of oyster crackers) later, I really did decide I better go since I had to drive back to the VRBO. Too bad though because I had a lot of fun! So, now I have some new friends – left to right is Mark, Wayne, Sharon, and Dianne. Mark and Sharon are brother and sister. Sharon and Wayne are married as are Dianne and Mark. What a fun group!

I drove back a different way so I could see different scenery. Everything was so beautiful!
Next day I went for a little hike at a nearby preserve and then River, Adam and I went into Traverse City for dinner and ice cream. Stay tuned for that!
