As I said in my previous post, I got to my hotel room around 5pm and I was beat. I wanted to do a little ceremony to thank the Universe for getting me here, and for Hawaii for welcoming me, but, my energy wasn’t in the right space when I first got here, so I decided to wait for the next day.
Woke up right before sunrise. My room is on the east side of the hotel, so I have a great view of the sunrise.
Did some meditation before getting up, then got dressed, went through what crystals I brought with me, found one to give to Hawaii in thanks, and went for a walk around the hotel (after getting some coffee in the lobby first!)

I was walking around barefoot in the grass. Found a tree to Reiki, so did that. Walked a little further and this flower fell right in front of me:
So, I thanked Hawaii for welcoming me, and put the crystal in the tree where the flower fell from. Subsequently I found out that this tree is called a “fish-killing” tree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barringtonia_asiatica and all parts of it are poisonous! I had picked up the flower and smelled it and it smelled divine. Good thing I didn’t try to eat it – apparently some small kids have died from taking a bite of the flower. Here’s a photo of the tree:
The first photo below with the little rainbow – the water sometimes gets into the rocks and when it comes out it comes out hard, and it’s called a “dragon’s breath” when you hear it.
After getting some breakfast I thought I’d take a walk. The hotel is on a beautiful banyan tree-lined road. Here are some photos:
I walked over to Coconut Island – it’s a nice little island. People used to live on it but a tsunami took away their homes so now it’s a nice park:

I had a video call with some of my old co-workers so came back to the room to do that.
Then I went to visit a friend of one of my cousins – she is an artist (among many other things) and lives in Hilo. Turns out her husband made all the tables that are in the lobby of my hotel! And she made some iron display stands for some displays in the lobby (she is a big time metal worker). More coincidental miracles! She gave me some history of the hotel, which used to be the Hilo Yacht Club. The wood that the tables are made of is Monkeypod, and the specific tree that was used had been cut down by a previous owner and thrown into the swimming pool. The subsequent owners pulled it out and commissioned them to make tables from it. It is beautiful wood. And what an amazing story!
Later, in the evening, saw this tugboat go by. My room looks out onto Hilo Harbor.
So, this was the end of my first full day in Hilo. Not sure what I’m going to do today yet, but I’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
