After sadly leaving the retreat, I followed River and Adam down the long, gravel driveway out to the main road. As it turns out, my GPS was unaware of the street they took to get to the retreat – as we were leaving the GPS map made it look like I wasn’t driving on a street! I was glad to find that out – now I’m not so sure how much I can trust the GPS.
On the way to Mahana House, my next stop, I wanted to stop at the Papa’aloa Country Store and Cafe. The GPS took me to the wrong place again! Luckily there was a guy on his bike who had stopped to do something so I asked him where it was and he got me there. Across the street and down a little bit!
I stopped at the Country Store and got a couple wraps, and some staples. Then, on to Mahana Country House!

I got settled in, and ended up going to sleep pretty early! I was tired!
Next day I woke up with the sun rise:
Made some coffee and was sitting on the lanai when Gobo showed up to greet me – he is a purring machine!
After some breakfast, I ran into Val who works here part time. She told me I could pick whatever fruit etc I wanted. So, I got some longan. There was a ripe avocado in the kitchen so I took that, but I did come across an avocado tree while I was looking around:

I was talking to Val about taking a walk, and she pointed out a ~3 mile walk I could do. I ended up doing that one so I could see the ocean from a closer spot.

I can’t remember if I pointed this out earlier, but the pole with the green disks is a Tsunami Siren. They test them the first Monday of the month, so, I heard the November test. Glad I knew about the test ahead of time!
Nice pedestrian bridge. Also makes it easy to find my turn when I’ve gone out.

The bridge is the Hawaii Belt Road – Hwy 19 – it basically goes around the whole island (hence ‘belt’ road)
I walked down this ‘no longer open to cars’ road. There was a steep dirt trail heading down to the beach park but I didn’t feel like trying it.

Hard to read the sign but this is the old Hakalau Post Office – I’m pretty sure it’s no longer in service.
It was kind of a hot day so the trek back up the hill wasn’t too much fun, but, it was a nice walk. I plan to walk UP the hill next time, away from the ocean, and of course I’ll post about it here. Stay tuned!
