Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden

The other day I went to the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden – it’s pretty close to Mahana House and it sounded cool.  I took a ton of photos too.  So, here goes!

The walk in started with a boardwalk

This photo doesn’t really show how tall these trees are!

These leaves were enormous

Onomea Waterfalls

Onomea Bay

A guy on a jet ski photobombing:

The waves are so powerful – I hadn’t thought of it but I read somewhere that the waves have travelled a long way to get to the island, with nothing in their way to stop them.  No wonder they’re so strong

Boulder Creek Falls

This tree reminds me of a giant chicken (or dinosaur!) foot:

This flower was cool – it was a big spiral

I loved this shadow:

I liked this shadow too

Tri-colored bamboo – reminds me of a traffic light!

Cat Whisker flower

Lots of orchids everywhere

On the way back out

After leaving the Garden, I stopped at What’s Shakin’ – a smoothie / lunch place – the guide books for the area claim their smoothies are close to the best on the island.  The secret? They use frozen bananas instead of ice.  I also got a seared salmon wrap and a hummus veggie wrap – both were good!

I went to another gardens nearby – stay tuned for that next!  Until then!
