Santa Barbara

I know I already did a post FROM Santa Barbara but now I will do one ABOUT my time so far here.  Today is Weds 12/8 (well, I started it on 12/8 but I just finished it up on Thurs 12/9) and I arrived here on Sun 12/5.  Wow, I still can’t believe it’s December!

Anyway, here are some photos.  First up, my room at the Kimpton Canary.  I asked for a room with a balcony.  It’s not much of one but what I really wanted was to be able to open a window and that’s what I got.  I face a parking lot but that’s okay.


I took a bath the first night.  Luxurious!

Next day, Mon 12/6, I walked down to Stearn’s Wharf.  State Street runs all the way down to it.  And the nice thing is, about 10 blocks of State Street were closed to automobile traffic during the pandemic, and it looks like it will permanently stay that way.  And there are nice lights up, plus additional holiday lighting, that make the street look festive.  And the weather here makes it pretty easy to have outdoor dining year round.

These dolphins are at the beginning of the wharf.  I’m pretty sure I’ve posted photos of them in a previous post.

Decided to have a bowl of crab bisque for lunch – here’s the view from my table:

Yesterday, Tues 12/7, I went to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art https://www.sbma.net/ .  I just happened to catch a docent tour that had just started.  Kenn got in on the action too

Painting by Claude Monet – this is Waterloo Bridge in London.  He had a hotel room with this view, and had about 17 (I think it was 17) canvases set up in the room – he painted this scene 17 times, changing from one to the next as the sun moved throughout the day. Pretty cool!

Although the lines look curvy towards the center, they were not.  Weird!

The Hunters by Grandma Moses – she started painting at age 76, but was very meticulous with her painting due to her embroidery talents!

I feel like I took a photo of either this painting, or a similar one, when I went to the Palm Springs museum of art.  Guess I’ll have to go back and check.  You should too! (UPDATE: I went back and checked and didn’t see it in the PS museum of art post, so, either I saw it somewhere else – I’ll have to think on it – or, there was a glitch in the Matrix.   We’ll find out I guess)

Okay, I think I’m basically caught up.  I spent the last couple days getting a massage (yesterday) and facial (today).  If you’re ever in SB, go to FLOAT Spa.  The facial was probably the best I’ve ever gotten (although, probably also the most expensive).  Oh well, why not, right?
