SoCal Winter 2020 – Part 2

OK, so, at the end of the previous post I had arrived at my hotel room at the Omni Hotel.  After settling in I walked the roughly 2 blocks to the Grand Central Market to see if I could find anything to eat.  I got some really good ceviche and guac and chips.  My room had a fridge so I saved some for my lunch on Saturday, since I took the healing workshop both Saturday and Sunday and I wasn’t sure how I would be able to go get lunch without a car.  And I luckily remembered to pack a little cooler bag so I could carry my lunch!  Sorry no photos of the food.

And another good thing is I am an Omni Member apparently with enough points to get a voucher for a free beer or wine for every night of my stay!  So, after I got the food and put it in the fridge, I headed down to the hotel bar to get my free drink.  It was fairly mellow there that evening, but I met bartender Mike, who I would see a few more times during my stay.

The next morning I woke up to this nice view:

The brick building in the forefront is the MOCA – Museum of Contemporary Art.  The two little boxes sort of in front of it are an art installation associated with MOCA.  The white building is another contemporary museum called The Broad (pronounced ‘the brode’). And the shiny building is the Walt Disney Concert Hall.  I visited both museums so there will be more explanations, art, and photos later on.  And I got more closeups of the Disney Concert Hall, which had the same architect (Frank Gehry) as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, which, if you have been following along, you saw photos of from my trip to Spain blogs.  I’ll repost the Bilbao photos next to the Disney photos so you can see how similar they are.  And, The Broad had a lot of the same artwork that I saw outside of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, so I’ll repost those too!  I thought it was pretty cool that I saw ‘doubles’ of these things in person!

Anyway, Saturday’s workshop was from 9am to 5pm so it was a long day.  I called an Uber to take me there and my driver was a little crazy and didn’t quite know where he was going.  But, he got me there with about 5 minutes to spare so all was good.

I met a lot of people the first day of the workshop and the experience I had during my healing session was amazing.  I’m not going to talk about it too much here but if anybody wants to know more, send me a message on this site.  I don’t publish them so it will remain private, and I’ll be able to answer any questions 🙂

So, after day 1, I got back to the hotel, freshened up a bit, and then headed to the hotel bar for my wine and something to eat.  I had a great beet salad and then got an impossible burger to go so I could have it for lunch .  I had a little chit chat with a guy at the bar who was looking for a place to eat with his family but that was about it.

Day 2 of the workshop, I got smart and got an Uber to come earlier than the day before.  This guy knew right where he was going so I got there with plenty of time and was able to pick exactly where I wanted to sit.  This day was also quite amazing.  We worked on our intuition a bit and did more healing sessions.  One of the exercises was, we were told to write down one word about each person in the class.  Then each of us went around the room and said one word about each of the other people in the class.  It was amazing how many people used the same word to describe the same person!  Pretty cool!

Anyway, the second day of the workshop ended and I got an Uber back to the hotel.  It was Superbowl Sunday and my 49ers were playing so I really wanted to get back to see the game.  I stopped at the room, freshened up, and headed to the hotel bar.  There was a good seat near the TV so I grabbed that.  I got engaged in conversation with the guy next to me, a financial guy in LA on business from London.  He understood the game for the most part but I was able to fill in a few blanks.  We had a fun conversation, ended up splitting a bottle of wine, wandered around the hotel, played the piano in the lobby, and, he bought me dinner!  Not too shabby!  It was a pleasant surprise to have such a nice evening.

This post had a lot of words and not too many photos.  Sorry about that!  The next day I went to a Pilates class and also went to MOCA, so I’ll save those for the next post.  I promise there will be more photos!

Until then dear readers!
