(Apologies again for how long it’s been since I’ve written an entry! I think I’m going to add a day or more per week with appointments on my calendar to update the Blog so it doesn’t go for so long anymore)
Anyway, friend Angus came to visit me at the end of January so we did a little sight seeing, hitting Point Lobos, Big Sur (specifically Bixby Bridge and Nepenthe), places around Carmel, including a concert at the Sunset Center – Live at Lincoln Center Jazz, The Monterey Aquarium, and some general driving around the area. Here are a bunch of photos:
First up, the first night we went to the Sunset Center. It’s pretty cool inside! This was a balcony seat – much closer than it looks.
And what’s a trip to Carmel without checking out 17-mile drive? As it turns out the PGA Pro AM was about to come to town, so there was a sign saying “no tourist driving on 17-mile drive” when we arrived at the gate. But we (truthfully) told them we were having lunch in Pebble Beach so got in with no problem, and even got our entry fee subtracted off of our lunch bill – bonus! And with no tourist traffic, we were able to drive 17-mile drive with hardly anybody else around! Here are some photos:
Unfortunately our view of the 18th green and Carmel Bay were obstructed by all the tents but it was still nice and the food was amazing and surprisingly less expensive than we expected! We ate at Stillwater.
The days run together but another thing we did was hike up to Flanders Mansion, off the Mission Trail system in Carmel. Note the creepy gnomes in the windows!
Another day we drove down to Big Sur. First stop – Bixby Bridge
I thought this was an interesting light pattern that showed up!
Then a little further south, a stop at Nepenthe for lunch. Great views and not crowded because Rt 1 is still closed south of here so not much traffic passing through.
I liked how the wood pattern showed in the glass of wine here
Next day a trip to the Monterey Aquarium. A must see if you are in the area!
