The England / Norway Trip

Greetings!  I thought I would put my trip itinerary and links to some activities I’m doing, if anybody wants to follow along.

I’m flying to London Heathrow tomorrow, Jan 25, arriving there Friday morning.  I’m meeting my friend Louise at the airport, and then she and I are boarding a bus to Reading.  Our friend Bill is picking us up in Reading, and driving us to his home in Devizes, England.  He lives on The Cartway, if you want to Google Earth it. Just Some Quick Stuff

I’m getting ready to go on my trip to England and Norway.  Out of curiosity I decided to check the temps and the amount of daylight hours I will be experiencing.  Sharing it here now, but, more to come!

I’m flying to England first, and then flying to Oslo on Feb 6 and to Kirkenes on Feb 7.

Here is where Kirkenes is:

It is WAY above the Arctic Circle.  And it is pretty much on the border with Russia.  This little piece of Norway is surrounded by Finland and Russia.  This is where we will be boarding our Hurtigruten boat.

And here is a table showing the daylight hours we’ll have when we first arrive.  6 hours of daylight to start, but gain almost 11 minutes per day!

I know this is short.  Just found this fascinating for some reason!

The Stats – Part 2 (Clothes Worn)

As promised (or warned, depending on how you look at it), I am going to give you the list of all the clothes I brought with me.  Keep in mind I travelled with my purse, a backpack, and ONE suitcase.  And I wasn’t dinged for my suitcase exceeding the weight limit on my flight back from PHX.  It took a lot of thought to pack for this trip due to the many changes in climate that I went through.  Remember, I experienced rain, snow, hot (Phoenix was 99oF one day) and cold (Truckee got down to 22oF) and everything in between!  And, also remember – I had no idea when I was coming back, or where I was going to  end up (to a certain extent) Continue reading “The Stats – Part 2 (Clothes Worn)”

Catching Up

On Sunday ‘the cousins’ had a potluck at my cousin Beanie’s house.  Not all of the cousins were there, but we had a nice time anyway.  Kenn got to meet them all in person.   We enjoyed deviled eggs, seafood gumbo, roasted vegetables and for dessert a Blum’s Coffee Crunch cake.  If you have never had that kind of cake before, you really should try it!   It is the best cake ever made! I took a couple photos but my camera seems to be having some focusing issues (not the user either!), but I did get one of Kenn enjoying the sunset out by the eucalyptus trees: Continue reading “Catching Up”

On The Road Again

Hi kids –

I am now in Calistoga, CA after sadly leaving Boise (I LOVE IT THERE).  Had a great time hanging with the guys.  Surprised at how well we all got along after all these years.  Here we are, photo complete with a ‘Lodi Ave’ sign that one of them ‘borrowed’ from the city of San Mateo.  We all autographed it for posterity.  And who looks the youngest 😉 ? The first leg

I made it from PHL to DFW to BOI on Thursday.  Flight from PHL to DFW was delayed because the toilets weren’t flushing.  Needless to say, nobody complained about fixing the toilets!  Luckily, though, we landed close to on time, which was good because I only had an hour between flights to catch the next one.  And, oddly, there was one guy, sitting near me, who was also going to BOI.  So, we walked to the gate together (also lucky – we landed at Gate C8 and only had to go to C16.  Originally the second gate was C37, and at least we were in the same terminal!).  They were boarding the second flight so we walked right up and got on – no muss no fuss!
