I’ve been here for about a week and a half now. Had a nice weekend – cousin Ted and his wife Amy stopped by on their way back home from Morro Bay on Friday, and one of my other cousins, Beanie, came down for a 1 night stay, and, their timing overlapped! Continue reading “More Carmel”
Po Po Shutdown
Yesterday was an interesting day. Went for a nice walk along Scenic Drive in the morning. Then walked around town in the afternoon. Had lunch outside at Alvarado Street Brewery and found a great cheese shop. Continue reading “Po Po Shutdown”
A Walk to Safeway
There were a few groceries that I hadn’t found in town, and it’s a beautiful day here so I decided to walk to the Safeway to pick up some things. As I mentioned in the previous post, it’s about 2 miles each way. I’ve walked over there on a past trip and didn’t think it would be too bad.
Around Town
Today is Tuesday so I’ve been in Carmel for 3 days now. I started writing a Trip Summary post but it’s going to take me some time to get it done because there are so many details from the trip that I want to look up.
So, I decided to write this post about how it’s been being here and add a bunch of photos. Continue reading “Around Town”
Day Fifteen – Carmel!!!!
I’ve been waking up really early – guess I’m still kind of on Central or Mountain or some other time zone than Pacific. So, got up, took my time getting ready and left the Kimpton around 9am. Continue reading “Day Fifteen – Carmel!!!!”
Day Fourteen – Santa Barbara, CA
Enjoyed a free buffet breakfast at the Hampton which was actually pretty good – scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and, yes, I had a turkey sausage. Sat out on my balcony to eat it but it started to get too hot and the sun was coming directly on me. Continue reading “Day Fourteen – Santa Barbara, CA”
Day Thirteen – Barstow CA
Loooong day of driving today – at least 355 miles. Across desert (the Mojave). And not much else. But I had psyched myself for it and took as many stops as I needed so it was all good. But boy was I glad to get out of the car!
Day Twelve – Flagstaff AZ
Had a bit of a long drive today, and it occurred to me that one of the most exhausting things about these drives is the road noise. Most of the roads are pretty rough. I had to turn up the volume on the car’s GPS because I couldn’t hear what it was telling me! Continue reading “Day Twelve – Flagstaff AZ”
Day Eleven – Albuquerque NM
Left the cute little motel in Tucumcari and got back on I-40 to head to Albuquerque. I thought it would be hotter but the temperatures have been pleasant. Continue reading “Day Eleven – Albuquerque NM”
Day Ten – Tucumcari NM
Early on I had planned to stay in Amarillo TX for Day Ten but then I decided to push forward and get myself into NM. So glad I did! I found a great little hotel called Motel Safari, right on Rt 66 in town. But here are some photos from the drive. It was a long day of driving, relatively speaking, and there was a time change so I made a lot of little stops to help break it up. Boy was it windy!
Days Eight and Nine – Oklahoma City OK
Got to OKC all right. Luckily it was a shortish drive. Ended up getting on 2 turnpikes that didn’t have any rest stops! What???? If I got desperate I could have pulled off the road and did a squat but luckily I didn’t need to do that, nor did I need gas. But, as soon as the turnpikes were done ($3.50 + $5.00 total) there was a plaza with a McDonald’s so I had a filet-o-fish and a small fries. I don’t eat those often but when I do they’re always good. Continue reading “Days Eight and Nine – Oklahoma City OK”
Days Six and Seven – Bentonville AR
The main focus of the route I chose to take out to Cali was Bentonville. I saw a piece about Crystal Bridges https://crystalbridges.org/ and just had to come here! The other ‘driver’ of coming here is, there is a 21c Hotel here too, so, at least two reasons to come here! Continue reading “Days Six and Seven – Bentonville AR”
Day Five – Springfield MO
Boy, the days are really starting to run together now. I left Paducah KY after one night, and not much activity. I needed a day to really rest and that was the perfect place to do that.
Day Four – Paducah
I got to Paducah and I was so tired I didn’t do much of anything except get some food and stay in my room. I splurged for a balcony room since the Holiday Inn in Paducah is right on the Ohio River. Continue reading “Day Four – Paducah”
Day Three – Louisville
Got to Louisville in good time. The only stops I made were at rest stops. Continue reading “Day Three – Louisville”
