Spring Trip 2019

I’m leaving for Spain next week, and thought I would do a post that shows where I’m going, and do it now while I have time 🙂

I’m doing a REI Hiking Trip along the El Camino De Santiago!

We start in Bilbao.  My friend Cilla is coming with me, and we are arriving in Bilbao a few days before the REI hike starts. Continue reading “Spring Trip 2019”

Angel Island – A Journey Through Some of Our Family History

During my trip out to California, a bunch of us cousins and my sister did a day trip to Angel Island.  Angel Island has a lot of historical significance for us as our grandma, Tye Leung Schulze, worked there as an interpreter.  With that job she became the first Chinese woman to become a Federal Civil Service Worker. Cali 2019

Decided to take a trip back to Cali.  Flew out yesterday, plane got in about a half hour early, and, I sat next to the (now retired) CEO of The Container Store!  And I had just gone there last week!  It was a great opportunity to have a conversation with him – definitely the highlight of my flight out! Delaweird

I had a new experience a few weeks ago – I went to a Delaweird event!

They generally meet the final Friday of the month (FF) and have different events each time.  The one I went to was titled FF83 Blind Date.  The premise was that people signed up ahead of time, then everybody showed up, and then, not unlike a blind date, two people who didn’t know each other were paired up to make sound/music together, improv-style. Art Class Project #4

This project was fast – done in 2 hours!

Here it is:

The object was to mix colors with lightening or darkening colors to get the range shown in the columns.  The line marked with the dot on the left are the original colors – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Blue Purple (aka Ultramarine Blue), and Purple (well, except for Yellow – the original Yellow is the third one down in that column).  Starting at the top, each color in the column was mixed with various levels of white and as the column goes down, the color is mixed with black.  One exception – the orange was mixed with Burnt Sienna, not black.  Between R & O, O & Y, Y & B and G & B, are mixes of the colors on either horizontal side.  The green I had to create using Blue and Yellow.

Anyway, I learned a lot about color mixing, and it will definitely help me in future paintings!

I start a new project this coming week.  Not sure what it is – may be a ‘complex still life.’  I’ll keep you posted!

New Category and Other Stuff – link to a movie!

Long time no write, I know.  Since I’m not travelling things aren’t quite as exciting on a routine basis as they may be otherwise.

But on that note, I decided that I needed to add a new Category “Random” seems a bit too encompassing, although I may still use it from time to time.

So, the new category is Entertainment.  This will encompass movies, books, TV, anything that I come across that I think it cool.  I have a bunch of other stuff to add to this post, but be patient!

So, to use my new Category, here is a link to a movie that I was an extra in when I was a kid.  By happenstance somebody happened to do a YouTube search of this movie and found a nice clean copy of it (I had a DVD copied from an old VHS tape that was recorded off TV in the ’80’s, so you can imagine how bad THAT was!)

I was 12, and at the peak of my ugly tween years.  Bowl haircut, taller than most of the other kids, not smiling.  White sweater, blue dress, white bobbie socks.  I throw a ball over a girl’s head within the first 5 minutes, and I appear again near the end of the movie also.  But watch the whole thing.  It’s entertaining in a funny old-school movie kind of way (e.g., cheesy).  And there’s some stuff in there that isn’t really PC either, which makes it extra funny.

So, without further ado, here is “Lassie – The Road Back.” (it was a 4 part episode back in the day, and was later edited into a ~90 minute movie)

Badlands

OK, this will be a short post.  I have been wanting to see the movie “Badlands” for years.  Stars very young Sissy Spacek and Martin Sheen.  It is on Amazon Prime now.  I now see how Quentin Tarentino got his music for True Romance, and even kind of the story line.  What a great movie.

Watch it!
