Back to Volcano and a stop in Pahala

Wednesday 11/24, the day before Thanksgiving, I was really itching to get out of Honomu.  I had 2 prescriptions to pick up at the KTA Supermarket (after a previous non-successful attempt at filling them) and that was on the way to Volcano so I figured – what the heck?  And I thought it would be fun to drive past Volcano and see where I ended up, so I just kept driving until it felt like time to turn around, which ended up being Pahala (in retrospect I wish I had gone a little further, but, I still have time to do so)

Imiloa

I decided to take a trip to a planetarium in Hilo – Imiloa.  They just reopened.  They had three 2-hour blocks you could choose from to visit.  I randomly picked the 1130 slot, which turned out perfect because the program they were doing in that slot was about navigating with the stars and I was the most interested in that topic of the three they had.

Visiting a Vanilla Farm

I was looking through a binder that the inn left in the room for guests, and came across a Vanilla Farm that does tours.  One of the guidebooks I referred to didn’t seem too impressed with the tour, but I decided to do it anyway.  They had 2 choices – have lunch and do the tour, or, just do the tour and get coffee and ice cream after.  So, I decided to just do the tour. Botanical World Adventures

I’m playing catch up again – in some ways there’s been a lot going on, and in some ways not.  Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in later.

Anyway, on 11/15 I woke up feeling ‘off.’  I’ll post about that separately, but, I felt like I needed to get out of this room and give myself some outside time.  It was raining – the first of 2 or 3 days of rain – but, I needed to get out anyway.

I looked at a map and saw that Botanical World Adventures is pretty close by.  I called to see if it was open just to walk around (there are ziplines and Segway tours) and it was!  Not only that, since they were slowly reopening, there was no charge to walk around.  Perfect! Arriving at a new place and going for a walk

After sadly leaving the retreat, I followed River and Adam down the long, gravel driveway out to the main road.  As it turns out, my GPS was unaware of the street they took to get to the retreat – as we were leaving the GPS map made it look like I wasn’t driving on a street!  I was glad to find that out – now I’m not so sure how much I can trust the GPS.
